Oktoberfest 2017

The 3rd Annual Jubilee Residences Oktoberfest Dinner and Comedy Night, presented by Rubicon Health Solutions, powered by Earl’s Pharmacy, was held Friday October 20, 2017 at the German Cultural Centre in Saskatoon.  This year’s event enjoyed the largest crowd to date with about 270 people in attendance and raised over $40,000, bringing the 3 year total to over $102,000.

In addition to a delicious German themed buffet, attendees were also treated to free beer sampling during the “Beer Stein” hour and a dance performance by the German Folk Dance Group “Concordia Alpenrose Schuhplattler Verein.”

Two musical theatre students from Brenda’s School of Baton and Dance in Saskatoon also performed a short skit entitled “Bosom Buddies.”

This year’s featured entertainer was Saskatchewan’s own Kelly Taylor.  The Prince Albert comedian is the only comic to make it to Canada’s Top Comic Finals twice.  He has also made multiple television appearances on such shows as The Halifax Comedy Festival, the CBC’s The Debaters, the Winnipeg Comedy Festival and Montreal’s Just for Laughs.  Kelly has also performed multiple times for Canada’s military troops overseas.

Several representatives of the Provincial Government attended this year’s fundraiser including Saskatoon Churchill- Wildwood MLA Lisa Lambert, who brought greetings on behalf of the Government.  Saskatoon Ward 9 Councillor Bev Dubois brought greetings on behalf of the Mayor and Council.

The success of the 2017 event is due in large part to the continued support of the Saskatoon community, through ticket sales, sponsorship and numerous donations to our live and silent auction.

All proceeds from the evening will go toward Jubilee’s Light Up a Life campaign, in support of the construction of sunrooms at Porteous Lodge and Stensrud Lodge.  The sunrooms are estimated to cost about $125,000 each to build.  Once constructed, the sunrooms will provide residents with a warm and inviting place to gather with visiting friends and family.

Plans are already underway for Oktoberfest 2018.  Save the date and mark your calendars for Friday, October 19, 2018.
